Washington Community Theatre

Nonprofit Overview

Washington Community Theatre is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization based in Washington County, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the purpose of stimulating and maintaining local interest and participation in the theatre arts. Our mission is dedicated to providing the opportunity for members of the community to participate in all aspects of the theatre and to presenting quality entertainment to our audiences. For nearly 60 years, WCT has striven to uphold our core philosophy:

- to involve community members in all aspects of the theatre.

- to offer the chance to newcomers to learn new skills and test their wings.

- to encourage individuals to share their talents with others on and off stage.

- to provide our audience with quality performances suitable for families to enjoy, and

- that we are a company of volunteer thespians, that we recognize the demands placed on them and respect the time they have to offer.

Current Needs

As a community-based organization, Washington Community Theater has always intended to provide opportunities for members of all ages and abilities to participate in our performances, both onstage and behind the scenes. Post-covid, we have been able to sustain ourselves on a two-show musical theater season - but would like to invest in a return to our pre-pandemic children's programing and adding a play to our season for performers who may not be musically inclined.

WCT would also like to explore the possibility of acquiring a permanent home and performance space for our company. Currently, we rely on partnerships with Washington Park, First Presbyterian Church and other local venues for performance, rehearsal, audition and meeting spaces, but feel that Washington Community Theater and its mission would be more effective with a physical space dedicated specifically for our use.
