Bentworth School District

Nonprofit Overview

The Bentworth School District, classified as a rural district, spans approximately 54 square miles and serves students from the boroughs of Bentleyville, Cokeburg, and Ellsworth, as well as North Bethlehem and Somerset Townships. The district's administrative offices are located at 150 Bearcat Drive, Bentleyville, PA 15314-1422.

The district operates three schools: an elementary (grades K-4), a middle (grades 5-8), and a high school (grades 9-12). Together, these schools provide educational services to approximately 1,150 students.

In addition to its core academic programs, the district partners with the Mon Valley Career and Technology Center to offer students hands-on occupational training in various fields. Two notable initiatives include the introduction of a K-12 partial hospitalization mental health program, developed in collaboration with a local mental health facility, and the implementation of a federally funded Head Start program. Both programs have been highly successful in addressing the diverse needs of the district’s students.

Current Needs

The Bentworth School District aims to expand STEM opportunities for elementary students by building foundational skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Early access to STEM technology, including tools like 3D printers, laser engravers, and exposure to robotics, fosters hands-on learning and creativity.

Our goal is to spark curiosity, develop problem-solving skills, and inspire students to explore STEM career pathways from an early age. Efforts are underway to integrate age-appropriate STEM equipment and create engaging learning spaces, aligning with the district's broader commitment to innovation and equity in STEM education.

By introducing students to cutting-edge technology and emphasizing real-world applications, we aim to increase participation, especially among underrepresented groups, and prepare all students for success in future STEM-related fields. These foundational experiences set the stage for continued growth as students transition into advanced STEM programs in middle and high school.
